What Are Rahu and Ketu Really? (Hint: They Are Not Planets)
Main Text:
For centuries, many of us grew up hearing about Rahu and Ketu as shadowy forces capable of disrupting lives, careers, and peace of mind. But if you look up at the night sky through a telescope, you will never find a physical planet named Rahu or Ketu.
Why? Because they do not exist as physical objects.
Here is the straightforward astronomical truth:
- The Earth’s Path: Earth revolves around the Sun on a flat geometrical plane called the Ecliptic.
- The Moon’s Path: The Moon orbits Earth on a path that is tilted by about 5.14 degrees relative to Earth’s plane.
- Intersection Points: When two flat 2D orbital planes intersect in 3D space, they cross at exactly two mathematical points, spaced 180∘ apart:
- Rahu (Ascending Node): The point where the Moon crosses from South to North relative to the ecliptic.
- Ketu (Descending Node): The point where the Moon crosses from North to South relative to the ecliptic.
Facts & Reality Check:
Because Rahu and Ketu are pure spatial coordinates, they possess zero mass, zero density, and zero gravitational force. An empty coordinate in space cannot emit harmful rays, cast curses, or alter human destiny.
Ancient astronomers used geometry to identify these points to calculate eclipse cycles—a triumph of mathematical observation that was later obscured by myths.
