Data can be extremely useful. We should not reject it. Data helps doctors understand diseases, scientists understand nature, engineers build safer systems and researchers discover patterns that human observation alone may miss.
The problem begins when we confuse data with truth. Data is information collected under particular circumstances. Its meaning depends upon context. A number without context can mislead. A pattern without understanding can mislead. A prediction without human judgment can mislead.
Therefore, perhaps our relationship with technology should be:
Computer: Process the data.
Human: Understand the meaning.
Human: Take the responsibility for the decision.
Artificial Intelligence Should Increase Human Intelligence
Artificial intelligence gives us an extraordinary opportunity. Instead of allowing machines to replace human thinking, we can use machines to expand it.
Let the computer search.
Let it calculate.
Let it compare thousands or millions of records.
Let it identify patterns that would take a human lifetime to discover.
Then let the human ask the most important questions:
Is this relevant?
Is the context correct?
What is missing?
What are the consequences?
What does my experience tell me?
What is the ethical choice?
That is not a rejection of technology. It is the intelligent use of technology.
